Licensed professional counselors (LPC) are trained mental health professionals who work with both children and adults, along with their families, to improve mental health and well-being. In pediatric settings, LPCs help children who are experiencing depression, anxiety, behavior disorders, attention deficit disorder, or who have experienced trauma. One of the most common approaches in pediatric counseling is play therapy.
Play therapy is a research based fun, creative approach to therapy. The philosophy is simple: play is the child’s language and toys are the words they use! In play therapy, clients will explore thoughts and feelings using a variety of activities to include sand tray , art, therapeutic games, storytelling, song writing, and child directed play in the carefully structured “play room”. Under the supportive, nonjudgmental guidance of a registered play therapist, children will have fun and gain a healthy sense of self-expression and coping skills to manage depression, anxiety, trauma, impulsivity, anger and social challenges.
